Booked your flight tickets with Air Astana? Knowing the Air Astana baggage allowance will be a plus for you. You can pack all the required items and avoid hassle at the airport. The airline offers an impressive baggage policy that can cover everything you want and give you enough space to pack your stuff. Air Astana allows you to carry up to one piece of checked bag with a maximum weight of not more than 23 kg. Additionally, passengers must ensure that the luggage’s maximum linear size dimension is not 158 cm.

Air Astana Carry On Baggage

Carry-on baggage is the luggage the airline allows you to keep inside the cabin. The cabin bags are limited to a specific size, weight, and number of bags, so there will be no issue for other passengers traveling. In Air Astana Economy Class baggage allowance, travelers can carry up to a maximum of one cabin with not more than 8 kg of baggage weight. In addition, the allowed maximum size must not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm. 

Premium Economy Class passengers can carry up to one cabin bag with a maximum weight of 8 kg. The maximum allowed size of the bag must be under 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Alternatively, business class travelers will receive additional benefits. The airline allows them to carry up to two checked bags with not more than 56 x 45 x 25 cm of maximum allowed size for each bag. In addition, the maximum permitted weight must not exceed 8 kg for each bag.

Additionally, Air Astana baggage allowance allows passengers to carry extra items inside the cabin. These items include

• One overcoat or similar item or blanket;
• One walking stick or mobility aid;
• One lady’s handbag/purse;
• One small camera or binoculars;
• Reasonable amount of reading material;
• One infant carrying basket;
• One collapsible stroller;
• Infant food;
• Medical or medicine supplies;
• Small cake;
• A small bunch of flowers.

Restrictions on Liquid

Passengers traveling with Air Astana can carry liquid up to 1 liter in volume inside the cabin. Ensure that the liquid must be packed in small 100 ml containers. These liquids include gels, sprayers, mascara, shampoos, perfumes, creams, etc. However, some gels, aerosols, etc., are not included in the list and are restricted to carry inside the cabin. Here is a list of items that can be carried in liquid containers:

• Water and other beverages, soups, syrups, jams, stews, sauces, and pastes;
• Food products containing large amounts of liquid;
• Creams, lotions, cosmetics, and oils, perfumes, sprays, mascara, lip gloss;
• Gels, including hair and shower gels;
• Contents of pressurized containers, including shaving foam, other types of foams, and deodorants;
• Pastes, including toothpaste;
• Mixtures of liquids with solids;

Some exceptions exist to the carry-on baggage allowance for passengers under medical observations or with severe health issues. These exceptions include medications, baby food, special dietary products (needed for consumption inside the flight during travel), and duty-free liquid items purchased at the airport. 

Note: passengers must ensure that all the liquid containers are packed inside a sealed plastic bag for identification at the airport. 

Other Restricted Items in Cabin Luggage

Air Astana hand baggage allowance policy restricted the passenger from carrying any toy or replica of guns, firearms, and weapons inside the cabin or as checked luggage. Also, ensure that the bags are packed within the cabin baggage limit. Otherwise, the extra charges will be applicable. In addition, a few items are strictly banned to carry as cabin luggage. Here is a list of items that cannot be carried inside the cabin:

• Spare/loose lithium batteries
• Electronic smoking devices
• Any heat-producing items
• Lighters/matches

Note: Air Astana suggests passengers to ensure that they are carrying all your valuable stuff, cash, jewelry, fragile items, etc., inside the cabin to avoid any damage or issues.

Air Astana Check in Baggage Policy

Passengers traveling with Air Astana are eligible for different baggage policies to carry as checked luggage. The baggage allowance varies depending on the cabin class selected. Passengers traveling in Economy Class can carry up to one piece of checked bag with a maximum weight of not more than 23 kg. Also, the maximum linear size dimension of the bag must not exceed 158 cm. 

Economy Sleeper cabin class passengers can carry up to 2 pieces of checked luggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg each. Similarly, Business Class passengers can carry up to a maximum of 2 pieces of checked luggage with not more than 32 kg of baggage weight in each bag. Additionally, the maximum linear size dimension must not exceed 158 cm. Passengers must be aware that exceeding the allowed baggage limits will result in additional baggage charges applicable. Also, Air Astana check in baggage policy states that any bag exceeding the overall weight of 32 kg will not be accepted as a checked bag and will be considered cargo luggage. 

MyChoice Fare Families Baggage Allowance

Air Astana offers a unique fare option to passengers named MyChoice in Economy and Business Cabin Class. The baggage allowance in MyChoice Fare Families is different. Air Astana Economy Class has Basic, Classic, plus cabin fare. Similarly, Business Class has two fares: Profitable Business and Flexible Business. Here you can check for the baggage allowance:

Nomad Club Membership Baggage Guide

If any of the passengers hold a Nomal Club membership, the airline will offer additional benefits for baggage allowance. The benefit will depend on the tier level of the frequent flyer program. Check the baggage allowance in the table mentioned below:

Additional Baggage Allowance

Air Astana offers passengers enough baggage to pack all required items.  However, if you are unsatisfied with the baggage allowance and don’t prefer packing light, you can also book additional baggage after making a reservation. You can add the extra luggage to your baggage allowance at least 36 hours before the scheduled flight departure. Ensure that the flight you booked is not an interline or a codeshare flight, as additional baggage will not apply to these flights. 

The airline states that if extra luggage is bought at the airport or within 36 hours of departure, the charges will be applicable according to the standard rate in the airport. However, Nomad Club members can add extra luggage without paying any additional amount. One can easily purchase it by visiting the official website of Air Astana or using the mobile app and clicking on the “Manage My Booking” option. Alternatively, purchases can also be made at the airport, via call, or through the travel agent. 

Note:

• Any passengers can add up to 10 pieces of extra bags. 
• Passengers traveling on the flights operated by Air Astana can only purchase extra baggage.

Air Astana Special Baggage

The airline considers various items to be special baggage. The items are not within the usual size and weight and may occupy a larger space than others. Special baggage includes Bicycles, Musical instruments, Medical and Sporting Equipment, etc. However, Air Astana restricted the special baggage size to 158 cm. Any bag exceeding the maximum size limit may result in additional charges applicable. While carrying any of the special items, such as musical instruments or sports equipment, make sure to follow all the restricted guidelines.

Notes:

• Ensure the bicycle is securely packed with removed paddles and deflated tires. 
• Golf equipment can be carried without paying additional Air Astana baggage fees as a part of additional second baggage with a maximum weight of not more than 15 kg. 
• Business Class passengers are allowed to carry up to a maximum of 2 pieces of baggage and can use their two baggage for Golf Equipment for free of charges. 
• Diving items like bottles, lamps, etc., can only be carried as hand luggage.
• Diving bottles must be emptied, valves open, the diving lamp de-energized, and the batteries must be removed.

Sports Equipment

Are you a professional sportsperson or play it for fun? Air Astana baggage policy covers you all in the special baggage allowance. However, passengers must take prior airline approval for certain items and not for all. Also, ensure that all the equipment and instruments are properly packed to carry as checked baggage. Here is a list of items that can be carried without any prior approval, and no additional charges will be applicable:

Musical Instruments

Are you a musician or do it as a hobby? Air Astana allows you to travel with your music partner without any hassle. If you are traveling with any of the instruments, such as a cello or double bass, which are fragile, you can purchase an extra seat to avoid any damage during your journey. Ensure that your musical instrument’s maximum weight doesn’t exceed 75 kg with a maximum size dimension of not more than 120 x 50 x 30 cm.

Other small-sized instruments, such as Guitars, Saxophones, etc., can be transported as checked baggage and cabin luggage. In addition, if the Air Astana baggage weight of the musical instrument exceeds the free baggage allowance, excess baggage charges will apply to the instruments. 

Infant Baggage Policy

Passengers traveling with an infant can carry an infant’s basket, one collapsible stroller whose maximum size must not exceed 34 x 32 x 14 cm when folded. In addition, you can also carry infant food for infant consumption during your flight. All the items mentioned above can be carried in addition to the free Air Astana hand baggage allowance, as there is no separate policy for infants. The airline considers children under the age of 2 years as infants. 

Air Astana doesn’t charge infants not occupying any seat on a domestic flight within Kazakhstan. Also, the airline charges 50% of the adult ticket fare if an infant has a separate seat. On an International Flight, the airline charges 10% of an adult ticket fare for the infant traveling without a seat. 75% of the applicable ticket fare amount will be charged to the child under 2 to 11 years and occupying a seat.

Traveling with Pets

Are you planning to travel with your pets? Then you choose the right flight. You can travel inside the cabin with your four-legged companion in Air Astana. However, there are a few restrictions that must be followed. Otherwise, the airline will not let you onboard the flight. Also, Air Astana only allows small cats, dogs, and turtles to travel with them. 

The maximum permitted weight for a pet and the container must not exceed 17 lbs (8 kg). The permitted size for the container must not exceed 30 x 47 x 27 cm. Ensure the container is rigid and robust from the outside but comfortable and soft from the inside. 

Here are the guidelines for carrying a pet inside the cabin:

• Up to 3 animals of the same litter are allowed per container with not more than six months of age.
• Don’t forget to make a reservation for your pet at least 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure. 
• The airline may not accept your pet at the check-in counter without reservation. 
• When reaching the airport, keep all the required documents, certificates, and medical procedure reports. 
• Ensure to carry the vet documents and pet passport at check-in time. 
• The pet must be adequately accommodated inside the pet carrier or kennel.
• Proper food and water must be available for the pet inside the carriage.
• The pet must be clean and in good condition to travel as the airline wouldn’t accept any pet with medical issues. 
• The pet container must have:
  • Sufficient space for the pet so that the pet can easily sit, stand, lie down, and turn around inside the kennel without hassle. 
  • The carriage must have suitable absorbent available to avoid leakage.
  • The pet kennel must have proper ventilation from all the sides.
  • The pet must be fully harnessed with a leash during your entire journey. 
  • Be available at least 2 hours before the flight depart.
  • Pet charges will be applicable and must be paid during check-in or at the ticket counter before the flight departure.

Note: Please only carry the allowed breeds in the Air Astana. Various breeds are restricted from travel due to breathing problems and changes in pressure during a flight. 

Dangerous Goods

Daily usable items are considered dangerous goods and may cause severe injury to other passengers if used directly. The airline doesn’t recommend to pack these items inside your luggage. Otherwise, it may cause serious problems, and all the stuff may be confiscated at the airport. Here is a list of dangerous items that are completely banned:

• Explosives
• Compressed Gases like Aerosols
• Flammable Liquids
• Substances with a High Oxygen Content, such as Peroxides and Bleaching Powder
• Toxic Substances
• Radioactive Substances
• Corrosive Substances
• Magnetic, Harmful or Malodorous Substances and Irritants.

There are a few items that are powered by lithium batteries. Be aware of the items as they are completely banned in Air Astana. Here is a list of items:

• Hover-Board
• Mini-Segway
• Air-Wheel
• Solo-Wheel
• Balance-Wheel, etc.

Note: Ammunition can be carried as luggage with the airline’s permission.

Restrictions on Batteries for Checked Baggage

Portable electronic smoking devices such as electronic cigarettes, electronic thin cigars, electronic pipes, personal vaporizers, and electronic nicotine, etc., are the items that can be carried inside the cabin up to a restricted limit but are completely banned as checked luggage. 

Also, the airline doesn’t allow passengers to carry more than two spare batteries. The lithium content in lithium-metal batteries must not exceed 2g and 100 Wh of rating for lithium-ion batteries. 

Ensure that all the spare batteries are protected separately to avoid any short circuit in the original packaging. Carrying batteries with lithium content between 2 to 8 g and lithium-ion batteries between 100 to 160 Wh can be transported after getting approval from the airline.

Weapons and ammunition

Passengers can carry weapons and ammunition inside their luggage, depending on the restricted guidelines. Prior approval and additional payments are required to transport weapons and ammunition in Air Astana. Travelers must inform the airline to carry firearms and ammunition at least 72 hours before scheduled flight departure. In addition, every passenger who is carrying firearms must inform the airline about

• The quantity and type of weapon
• Model, tag number, and serial number of the weapon
• Purpose of carrying the firearms
• Type of ammunition, quantity, and cartridges for firearms that must not exceed 5 kg of weight each traveler

Points To Remember

• All the sporting and hunting weapons, handguns, rifled weapons, etc. can only be carried inside the checked baggage.
• Ensure that you pack weapons and ammunition in separate packaging.
• All the weapons, guns, etc., must be unloaded so they can’t be used directly or easily in a single go. 
• The ammunition can only be carried for personal use.
• Only 5 kg of total ammunition can be carried per person.
• Make sure you present the firearms and ammunition at the check-in counter at least 2 hours before the scheduled flight departure.
